Mark the front edge of every seat and the top of each back. Agree whether stripes run towards the backrest or across the furniture; a swatch image alone does not establish the intended orientation.
02Discuss alignment at the important joins+
Identify which adjacent pieces should visually continue the pattern and which can be treated independently. Curves, angled seams and fabric repeat affect what is achievable and how much material is required.
03Approve a layout, not just a colour+

Not necessarily. The curve, pattern repeat and seam divisions can prevent a continuous match. Agree which views and joins matter most before the layout is approved.
Will patterned fabric require more material?
It can. Matching repeats and placing bands deliberately may increase cutting allowances. The requirement is assessed for the actual fabric and cushion shapes.
