01Set the balance on the largest pieces+
A plain seat face gives the furniture outline room to lead. A patterned face makes a stronger visual statement and needs considering across the complete set, especially where separate cushions meet.
02Mark direction on each piece+
For stripes, show the front edge and top of every cushion. Corners, tapers and curved backs can change how a repeat appears. Agree the important alignments and any compromises before cutting.
03Make the sample comparison physical+
Lay the patterned sample beside the intended plain and piping materials. Catalogue thumbnails may show only part of a repeat, so request enough information to understand the pattern scale before approval.

Can I mix stripes with plain cushions?
