For some complex or repeated cushion sets, an agreed trial piece can help resolve decisions before the full order is made. A prototype is an optional, separately scoped stage with its purpose, cost and timing confirmed in advance.

01Agree what the trial is intended to prove+
A pattern check, foam trial and finished upholstered prototype are different things. Record whether the review covers outline, comfort, visible finish or several of these, and identify any temporary materials that are not the final specification.
02Review it in the actual position+
Check the piece against its neighbours, normal sitting position and any lids or access points. Photograph the fit from consistent angles and describe changes precisely, such as the edge, area or support that needs attention.
03Close the review with a written decision+
List accepted details and requested revisions, identify the person approving them and agree whether a further check is needed. A revised prototype or the full set should follow a clear accepted specification, not an informal assumption.

Is a prototype included with every cushion order?
No. It is considered where useful and agreed separately. Many straightforward replacements can follow another pattern and approval route after the existing pieces have been assessed.
Does approving one piece guarantee the fit of every cushion?
No. Other shapes, bases and access points still need their own checks. The trial only establishes the agreed details it was made to assess; the rest of the set must be specified accordingly.
