Colour is only the beginning. Compare the material in the light of your space, then consider the cushion profile and the finish at its edges.
Photographs of the existing cushion or cover, its shape and the way it fixes in place give the first useful picture. Include close-ups of zips, press-studs, seams and any areas that need to change.
A template-from-home kit or paper pattern can be used where appropriate. Existing covers may also be useful as a reference, provided they are labelled clearly and sent with an explanation of the required changes.
The final brief can cover vinyl colour, texture, piping, non-slip panels, stitching, foam thickness and any practical upgrades. This is where the replacement becomes an improvement rather than a like-for-like copy.

Label outlines, front edges, joins and fixing positions, then photograph the material in place.
