OCEAN BREEZE / BESPOKE YACHT UPHOLSTERY
The captain’s guide to an international upholstery brief
A practical starting point for EU yacht projects: access, samples, approvals, handling and the vessel’s programme.
BESPOKE YACHT UPHOLSTERY
THE FEEL / THE FIT / THE FINISH
Bespoke marine upholstery, considered from the first conversation to the final fitting.
Compare fabric, foam, piping and thread together. Confirm the pattern and fixing details before the finished pieces are made.
Explore fabric, piping & thread ↗A CLOSER LOOK / PERSONALLY CONSIDERED
Colour is only the beginning. Compare the material in the light of your space, then consider the cushion profile and the finish at its edges.

Give the current marina or yard and the dates the vessel will be there. Identify any move planned between survey and fitting. An international upholstery commission needs a sequence that follows the yacht, rather than a single delivery address assumed to remain unchanged.
Separate the aft lounge, flybridge, sunpads, helm and interior areas in your brief. Photograph every space as a whole, then number the individual pieces. Show backs, undersides, fixings and any access concealed by the upholstery. A clear inventory helps discussions about removal, patterning and transport.
Name the onboard access contact and the person approving fabrics, construction and changes. If an owner, captain and designer are all involved, agree how the specification will be reviewed. Include relevant design references alongside the practical requirements rather than treating them as separate projects.
Josh can travel to yachts across the EU with shortlisted swatches and samples. Measuring, physical templates and 3D scanning are discussed according to the project. The scope of the visit, travel costs and access are agreed before booking; scanning is not assumed to be necessary for every cushion.
Agree who removes and labels pieces, who arranges packing and transport, and who installs the finished upholstery. Discuss applicable cross-border requirements and any return visit as part of the scope. Use the captain’s checklist to make those responsibilities visible before the first cut.
